Does anyone know if its possible to get temporary health insurance for travel to Vermont and for a couple of weeks after arrival (after which other health insurance will click in). Travel insurance doesn't seem to work on a non-holiday - ie not coming back - situation and for some reason that isn't explained, in four states in the US including Vermont temporary health insurance isn't available.

Travel insurance is dependant on return to country of residence, see small print. If you claim they have an out :( if you are obviously not intending to return for a while. (As in having a 2 year visa stamped on passport/ no return ticket). Lonely planet have a possibility but its tied into VHI/BUPA etc, we're looking into it.

To answer my own question, Lonely Planet solved it.
