There was a christmas special of Bachelors Walk on RTE recently. As in previous programmes one of the characters drove a green Merc W116 S-Class. The reg of the car in the christmas special was 67 NYI however I could have sworn that in the previous episodes it had a 75-D-XXX reg. Different car? Or is my memory playing tricks on me :)

I think that Merc was an Irish registered car alright (67 NYI) It was for sale recently on carzone.ie if I remember rightly.

Think your memory is playing tricks - I know that car (met its previous owner a couple of times). Yep, it's been for sale for a long time, on carzone.

As it happens, i know Simon Delaneys brother and he's a classic MB nut. The Merc in BW looks in good nick but is a bit of a dog to drive. There was an old Daimler or Jag in some of the first episodes as well as the Merc, which was atrocious.

The Mercedes was in good order when I first saw it. Last time I saw it about 2 years ago it had deteriorated a bit. If it's been for sale (=off the road?) for a year or more likely it's a bit rough now.

The Jag was a black series 3 XJ wasn't it?

I saw the W116 at a Show about 6 months ago. In factr I've seen it at a few shows. It now looks quite rough, with faded patchy paint and some bubbles. I suppose it was 5-6 years ago now since the first BW was made and its obviously been layed up and stored outside since !

So not worth the 7 grand asking price?

    Nope !

Its a pity as ity was a nice car and had a lot going for it, original reg, some screen history. Pity it was neglected !

    Pity alright.
Its previous owner appeared to look after it well - when I saw it, it was clean, kept indoors, paint was tidy, no visible rust and the owner enthusiastic about it (and a nice guy too).

At the right price, I'd buy it just to preserve it. 7 grand isn't the right price!
