I tend to spend about $2000-$3500 for my year-end vacation. It is a family affair and we usually hop over to Australia or New Zealand. How much do you people spend?

I never have a defined budget for a vacation as I don't take package holidays any more and time taken for trips varies between a short city break and longer trips.

For example, my last holiday, 17 days in the south of France, cost only the price of the flights for the two of us, about €190, as we have access to the house in my signature and free use of a car also. This meant we had extra spending money. Next year, my main holiday consists of a week in Vancouver, 4 days in Chicago, 4 days in Boston and 4 days in Toronto and between flights and accommodation, I don't expect to have change from €4000 and will need a phenominal amount of spending money.

i am actually thinking of budget vacations with my husband next year but it can be quite a chore when you have children tagging along and you have not been to the place before.

i try to keep hotels and flights below 2000, so far its worked out nice and ive had a few really good holidays.

A lot of people settle for whats on offer, but i usually do a little digging and try to find the deals.
