    Hey guys.

Has anyone upgraded their macbooks memory?

    Where did you get it?

Im looking into it and hoping to get 2x512 some time.

Crucial comes to about 150 euro [inc p+p].

    From looking here:
    http://www.ramseeker.com/
.. I came accross "Other World Computing" ..
    http://eshop.macsales.com/ ..

Has anyone any experience with these guys?
It seems I could get 2x512 for my macbook for 110 euro [inc p+p] here, which is tempting.

Thanks in advance for any replies..

But that's from USA, right? So import taxes/tariffs could be a problem (and whether they ship to EU)

You'd have to count for shipping and tax's, as K.O.Kiki said.

Dunno why you don't just goto www.shop4memory.com and buy 1GB of MacBook memory there for about €123. Free delivery to Ireland, as well.

Womoma, what RAM have you go in your Mbook already?

sorry for the delay gettin back.

    thanks for the replies.

kokiki the site i mentioned, macsales, appearantly ships to ireland and it quoted me 110 euro [ in the dollar equivilent ] including p+p
    ..
then again there is a note in the FAQs stating:
The shipping costs do not include duties and taxes that the courier will collect when the item is delivered. As each country has different duties and taxes we cannot provide an estimate on what those may cost. You will need to contact your local customs office for an estimate of the cost if you wish to get an idea of the charges.
so Ive no idea how much extra that may cost.

syco - thanks for the link.
shop4memory still comes to about 150 when u include VAT, this is about the same as crucial, so Im still shoppin around to see if I can get it cheaper, but from a reputable dealer.

Ham, Ive got the 2x256 which came with it as standard.

I cant find any Irish references to macsales.com on this board, so I might just end up getting it from crucial for about 150.

Just remember that Shop4Memory is based in Ireland, so they may be faster ;)

I'd trust the quality of Crucial more, though. They're well known for selling premium quality RAM.

For performance, same-size pairs are a good idea; but I don't think they have to be the same manufacturer, just the same speed.

hey al they dont have to match but it makes sense to do so.

i cant find the link but there was a behcnmark chart somewhere, on one of those ram sites, where it compared performance from different macbook ram setups.

As far as I remember, it basically showed that if you go from 256x2 to 256+512, there would be a small performance boost, but it would be far more of a boost if you got the 2x512
I think 512x2 out performed 1024+256 overall too.

just cant afford 2X1024 at the moment, but is there any point in getting 2x512? if i want to have 2x1gb in the end? or will i get 1g and leave one 256 in there.

Im still thinking along similar lines myself.

I guess it depends what youre using the macbook for.
2 gigs would seem overkill for just emails and mp3.

If you get a gig now and a gig later, you will be paying for p+p twice.

I reckon it would be worth getting the 1 gig now if you knew for sure you would definatly be getting the other gig sooner rather than later.

I went with 2x512 from crucial in the end.
Prety easy to install, just had to wait for the "click", applying a LOT of pressure.

Wondering why I didnt upgrade earlier, it runs so much better now with the gig. Quite astonishing really.
