i'm playing in a local pub tomorrow evening and am looking for a (preferably) free music program that would be suitable..

the playlist is mostly rock songs so there's no need for any mixing features..
something that would allow me to correct the volume of the songs and save it so that all songs play at the same level would be great, and a cueing feature that would allow me to skip the first few seconds of a couple of songs with long intros..

i'll be playing .mp3s which are stored in the itunes directory on an intel mac and i've also got a hercules dj console, so anything that supports that would be great.. (can't use traktor)

    all help appreciated,
    nick.

You could try and download a demo version of Traktor; it has upgraded to Intel compatible lately and the demo version plays for a full hour. DJ 1800 is also good, and very cheap to purchase, I think it's about $30 or so.

Alternatively, why don't you make a playlist in iTunes? You can go into each song and edit the fade in and out times as required, and iTunes will let you set a cross fade timing between tracks.

    ableton live.

you can download the demo from ableton.com, its about 70mb.

It doesnt alow you to save your set, but is still fine for performance.

you can drag your tunes straight from itunes onto the grid and choose which files to play.
They can be assigned to A or B cross fadrer channels, which can be mapped to your hercules thing.

You can set levels for each channel, or individual tracks, or if you dont have enough time, you could cheat and put a miximiser on the master.

there is a built in tutorial within the software.
