Got a bit of a problem. Im currently using a wireless connection for my mac, but i need to change to a ethernet, but its saying that there's an ip already assigned and it wont connect to the internet. How do i go about changing the ip or getting a new one.

The reason im changing to ethernet is cause im going to be using xbox live, and its easier than getting the wireless adaptor. I have a switch to connect the 2 to the modem. And ill have to get a 2nd for the xbox, how do i go about getting this. Cheers in advance.

Disable the wireless interface on your Mac and then see if you can connect on the ethernet interface.

Assuming you have a wireless router, does it not have some unused LAN ports you could use?

Please post details of your modem, router, and switch (manufacturer and model number) so we can tell you what options you have.

I disconnected the wireless router and the modem and restarted the mac, but still the same probem. The router only has one port.

With wireless disabled, connect a patch lead from the router to your Mac. Connect another patch lead from the router to the Xbox. Let the network cards get IP addresses dynamically [DHCP] and, of couse, enable the DHCP server on the router. You can always assign static addresses later.

Also, make sure the MAC access control list is deactivated at least while you're trying to get things working. No harm to turn it on again when you've set things up.

I may be wrong but I don't think you can do what you're planning with a D-Link DWL 2000AP+. The problem is this model is a wireless access point (with bridge and client ability), not a wireless router.

The DWL-2000AP+ can be configured to operate in any one of the 4 modes: (1) as a wireless access point (AP), (2) a point to point wireless bridge, (3) a point to multi point wireless bridge, or (4) a wireless client.
You'll need the NAT routing function available in a wireless router in order to share your internet connection concurrently between multiple devices.

Sell the 2000AP+ and the Sweex and pick up a Linksys WRT54GL?

I didn't check out that piece of equipment before posting. Fair play, Snowbat. I'll second the Linksys WRT54GL. Great piece of kit.
