    Hi there,

I have decided to give AVG Internet Security a go and so far so good! However, I was wondering if it was really necessary for AVG to do a full system scan on a daily basis?

I know the more scans are done the better but once a day?

It really depends on the type of users on your computer. If your PC caught so many viruses that you needed to buy AVG then maybe you need scans daily. If you caught one once a month you might set it to 2/3 weeks...

Daily makes better sense from AVG's point of view.

    ...?

No harm in letting it run daily if you leave it running while you're eating dinner, going out for an hour or something similar. It doesn't take a terribly long time. That said though, I usually cancel it, running a thorough check maybe once every few weeks. Not had any problems though.

You should run a scan at least once a week but as posted if you have down time a daily one is no harm. Personally run all scans daily.

Daily scans here too, my computer is on all the time. Just schedule it for a time you will be at work/away/sleep or something.

Iv used the AVG Free scanner and found it very un-reliable. It picked up only the minoirty of viruses on my machine and half of them it was unable to remove. A lot of the time the updates never worked either.

I found switching to NOD32 or Kaspersky to be very reliable. Panda AV wasnt to bad either. They all detected and removed a lot more viruses then AVG managed to detected.

Maybe things have changed, or the profesional version is more accurate and reliable. The above is my two cents anyway :)

Well to be honest, I never got a virus in my life (as far as I know anyway). Always had Norton Internet Security and decided to switch to AVG Internet Security because it is cheaper, better (most people say so anyway) and because I want a full product which includes Anti-Virus, Firewall, Anti-Spam, etc.

And I never leave my PC on when I'm not using it so I think I'll just change the full scans from Auto to Manual and run them once a week or so.

Thanks for your help guys! ;)

I would do a full system scan once a week. I usually do all my routine scans on a Saturday morning (my maintenance morning!)

I would never leave my computer on all the time either. Definitely not a good idea.

That's what I want to do but how do I cancel these daily scans at startup in AVG?

Nah, me neither... Always shut it down when I'm not using it. Better for the environment too!
