External HD used as cache/temp

    Hey all,

Got a MyBook 250Gb external drive there the other day. Very happy with it. But I've noticed that windows seems to be using it as a temp store or cache. For example, this evening I was slipstreaming some hotfixes into a XP SP2 install and while it was integrating it was temporarily writing files to the h drive (the ext drive). Is there a way I can prevent this? The ext HD is a lil noisier and not as fast as my internal drive.

    Cheers

How much free space is there on the main drive (C: ), and were you working from the ext. HDD?
Control panel -> system -> Advanced -> Performance -> Advanced -> ext_HDD: ==> set to No Paging (Under virtual memory)?

ensure Windows is not indexing the drive ( properties of the drive in m computer)

32Gb free on the C drive and no, wasn't working from ext HD. Just two partitions on the internal drive. (copying files from c: to d:) no paging set on all drives bar the c drive.
