How do I record Radio 7?

Currently I record BBC Radio 4, RTE Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2 onto either an audio tape or Mini disk. I want to listen to and record BBC Radio 7.

I would like to record it and play it back at my convenience.
    I am not very technical.
I don't want poor reception but as it's mainly comedy I am listening to, I am not looking for CD quality either.

I have NTL cable and so I can set up the DVD recorder to record BBC Radio 7 but I can only play it back in that room which doesn't really suit me.

I can listen to it live on my pc or use the Listen Again facility.

    1) Can I get it from the DVD player or my PC onto some other portable format?

    2) Can I connect a Digital Radio to the NTL box and if so, can I connect some form of recorder to it? Or can I get a Digital Radio and recorder combined?

    3) Presumably to listen to Radio 7, I need access to NTL or the internet?

    4) Why are some stations only available on Digital? Is it cheaper for the broadcaster or is there lack of space on FM wavebands?

    Thanks

Do you have a hi-fi amp (a proper one with aux imputs I mean)? if so run a line out from your PC soundcard to the aux-in on the amp and record to tape!

Offhand I can think of 3 methods

1 The method mike65 suggests above

2 There is free software available to record the sounds going through your soundcard and make into a playable file on your computer

3 Buy one of the newly legal low powered FM transmitters and plug it into the headphone socket on your computer or DVD recorder ,tune your radio to its frequency and record that

As for the answer to Q3
    .
Yes you need to have access to either NTL , a Sat system that picks up transmissions that are broadcast in the clear ( you will receive all the BBC TV and radio channels ,and also ITV channels ) or the internet.

There are no plans for it to broadcast in Dublin at this moment either on current transmitters or the new DAB system .

As for the answer to Q4

The BBC set up Radio 6 ,1 xtra ,Asian network ,BBC7 and 5 live sports extra when more space for stations became available using the DAB system in the UK .Using the FM band there wasn't enough space available for those stations

A Satellite card and dish lets you record direct on PC and you can then convert to minidisk or MP3, or CD or use "iTrip" type device to feed a radio. All 70 radio inc BBC are free on Satellite. A card is under €70. Dish & LNB extra.
