On the old C64 I find Impossible Mission a quick game to get into - though takes awhile to actually finish. But it's a great game to touch and go and save progress for later. Handy for these busy days. :)

Having said that I never actually ever finished it. For those of you who actually completed - Is it a big game? It's sequel looks quite good too. It's hard to believe that it was a very early game on the C64 - 1984.

    Anyone finish this game?

I've never finished it, but I may give it a go later since I'm getting into the old c64 emulation again.

I'm playing a bit of it now.

    Things that I notice is:

    1. You have only 6 hours to start with.
    2. that everytime you die you get 10 mins knocked off the clock.
    3. there are 32 rooms
    4. 36 puzzle pieces (each code letter is made up of 4 pieces).
    5. These are color coded, and can be mixed, even color changed to match.
    6. You can use the phone on your "palmtop" in the game.
    7. It's almost impossible. ;) High score today... a miserable 1600 pts.

You can get a lot of help here. Thanks goes to Mayhem.
http://www.mayhem64.co.uk/main.htm and then click on retrogamer and then Impossible Mission down the page.

I played a little bit, but it's still as confusing as I remembered it to be. I'm not really sure of what the objective is. I presume it's to collect all the little things that are hidden in the objects, but...then again.

I got to a room with a big chessboard on the wall and played back the tune it gave me. Nothing happened so I just gave up.

For anyone who hasn't played it, it's on that emulator that world of wonder are selling for 9.99.

The chessboard is a puzzle that you play back to get extra help to reset the platforms and "snoozes" to disable the robot temporarily. See the mayhem link above. He interviewed the actual designer who drew out the platforms before putting the game into memory.

The objective of the game is two fold. 1. Collect all 36 pieces and combine 4 pieces to get 1 letter and you need 9 words so I believe (thats 4 x 9 = 36). You got 6 hours and each mistake costs you 10 mins. The pieces are tricky enough to visually combine as you can even change the color of the pieces.

I loved Impossible Mission 2 but it's not as well remembered as the original your discussing here!. I think there's a remake of Impossible Mission in the pipeline for the newer consoles this year.

Yeah, I'll must to try out Impossible Mission 2 next. :) I remember reading Zzap in 1988 (around the same time as Last Ninja 2 on the cover). Impossible Mission 2 was good I heard. I remember the review mentioned it was split over 8 towers and that the puzzles were slightly easier and included music notes as part the puzzle. The time lost was 6 mins per mistake as opposed to 10 mins in the original above.
The Amiga version had another sequel: Impossible Mission 2025 http://hol.abime.net/2623

Sorry Jerichoholic but there's no rom/image requests allowed here. A search with google should turn up everything you need anyway. All amiga disk images are stored as with the *.adf extension if that helps.
