bought a creative muvo v100 and got home to realise that its min system requirements are windows xp (i on windows 98) and it needs min 128mg ram:eek: (i have 48mb)

should i upgrade my computer anyway or should i just return it and get one that will comply with my system?????

Did you get a CD with it and have you actually tried it as opposed to presuming it won't work. Also 48mb of ram is so old, you would get people throwing out PC's that are better.

I think your system would not be suitable for a lot of mp3 players. You would generally need at least xp for most players and around 512 or more in ram

i was just thinking that, I think the lowest amount of RAM around the time Rio released it's first mp3 players was like 128MB...

Keep an eye on jumbletown.ie or the free section on adverts.ie or even go down to your local recycling plant, you should easily find a computer that'll do the job:)

Seriously, try it first and see, the likelihood is that it will work fine, the machine only has to be able to transfer information from its harddrive to its usb port, which any piece of crap can do. Although its likely that your machine only has usb v1 so don't expect transfers to be fast.

Just checked the net, you may need to find drivers for it to work though. Those muvos have built in flash drives that work out of the box by default in WinXP but I'm not sure about Win98 but I have heard you can get them working somehow. But if not, your machine could still run XP (albeit VERY slowly. I have managed to get XP working on a machine with only 64mb of ram)

no, it wouldn't be worth upgrading your system. Just get a new one, if it does everything you want it to do, then a newer one will do everything you want it to do, including the mp3 stuff;)

i have added usb 2.0 as i needed extra ports...
but See i'm afraid if i get a new system my hardware won't work on it....esp my scanner agfa snapscan and the bl***y cost too

Whoah hold on. In another thread, you said you bought the PC in 1999. Therefore, hideous amount of ram even for that time, the processor should be relatively ok, I'd imagine 400-600mhz Celeron or P2/P3.

Throw in a 128mb stick of ram, or even 64mb - XP will still run, and so will your player. It should run fine on Win2000 as well, which is even less resource intensive.

This will cost you at most, ten euro.

I see you are located west of ireland - if thats galway, I can give you some free ram, i have some pc66, pc100 and pc133 somewhere, your system probably takes either of the former.

actually bought the computer in galway but i'm in mayo

Not great but it'll do the job for Win2k or XP, both of which will run your mp3 player, you just need more ram, I assume you can fit it yourself?

If you can find out what sort of ram the board accepts, I can probably post you some...let me know.
