Chorus Analog channel freqencies

A long time ago, I found a site that had all the channel frequencies for Chorus, back when it was CMI, but I can't find it any more.

The reason I'm looking is that my son got a Wharfedale CTV2185RF TV for his daughter at Christmas from Argos, and we've been trying to set it up on the Ashbourne Cable system for him. I know from painful experience over many years that the cable system here is non standard, but other equipment from different manufacturers is pulling in all the channels, so it's something specific to the Wharfedale, or we're missing something basic somewhere.

It's not finding RTE 1 or TV3, that's the 2 I know are missing, and my suspicion is that even though it's been set to the EIR setting, it's not finding the channels because the tuner isn't set up to cover the entire band that the lousy cable system here is using.

I've tried a manual search, and it's almost finding RTE 1 on channel 2, with it at the limit of the upper end of fine tune, ( there's a monochrome picture and sound) but trying channel 3 at the low end is not bringing it in. I've had no luck at all with TV3 using the same search method. Auto Tuning is not finding it at all, despite several attempts at changing the few settings that are open to be modified.

Sky 1 is there, and that always used to be the big problem, as it was at the bottom of the band, so always poor quality. It's not brilliant, but acceptable.

I suspect that there's no way that this set is going to be capable of getting these 2 channels off cable, and to put an aerial on to the distribution system so that I can get them off UHF from 3 Rock or Kippure is a pain that I'd prefer not to have to go through.

Anyone got any ideas or thoughts on this?

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Get a TV aerial for RTE/TV3. Miles better quality than analogue cable.

Consider either FTA satellite, Sky Satellite or Chorus Digital package. The Chorus analogue cable is just too poor to watch on other than a 10" kitchen TV or such like.

If Auto tune doesn't work, it may be the cable signal is too poor. Chorus cable uses different frequencies in different areas and may be changing soon as systems are upgraded for broadband and the lineup on NTL. Broadband return channel uses the lower analogue channels so they have to go (45MHz to 68MHz).

Already have Sky Digital, have had Sky since the days of Analog, and yes, Chorus Cable should have been scrapped 10 years ago, it was dire then and hasn't improved much since, most days the teletext on the UK's crashes, and the head end hasn't improved much, despite many moves of location.

I had kind of hoped to avoid having to multiplex an aerial with the cable signal, it only makes the quality issues even more complicated. This might be the push I need to go for Sky + & multiroom, at least I will then get Surround sound from Sky.

If Chorus are going to change a lot of things, then they will more than likely be told to remove all the cable from the property and go away, unless they come up with an extremely attractive package, and with their track record, I shall be very surprised if they even come close.

The problem is the lower end channels, so if they are going to have to move them, it might sort of resolve the issue. To be fair, the signal quality on most of the channels is reasonable now, it has improved from the days when the chances of getting all the NI channels was zero, but the low end channels are still patchy and poor quality, but I suspect that also has a lot to do with the quality of the tuners on the TV's as well.

FTA is certainly an option I shall look at, given that the majority of the channels I want are now there.

Don't want Chorus Digital, there are too many complications with set top boxes and multiroom <g>.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Moved house in summer and wrote all chorus frequencies down to make it easier in my new house. Here's what I receive (please let me know if there are other channels available that I havent tuned into!)

    RTE1 175.25
    RTE2 199.25
    rte3 263.25
    rte4 231.25
    utv 183.25
    bbc1 191.25
    bbc2 271.25
    ch4 207.00
    ch6 391.25
    e4 247.25
    sky1 215.25
    sky news 295.25
    discovery 255.25
    paramount 303.25
    eurosport 311.25
    at the races 441.25
    chorus 223.25

And I used to get uktv gold on 424.25 but that stopped for some reason. Hope this is what you were looking for.

Depends on where you live Watty. In Waterford City (which does not have an RTE repeater) Cable quality is far superior on all four terrestrial channels.

obviously you should complain to RTE and your TDs. Mad Waterford not having decent TV unless they subscribe to Sky.

You in Limerick? Those are the same frequencies I'm getting here anyway. However it's quite likely the system is completely different where Irish Steve is - I assume near Dublin with his talk about Three Rock/Kippure and I dunno where CMI was (we used to be Irish Multichannel here).

very true. terrestrial coverage in Waterford is a joke. luckily where i lived the analogue cable was perfect but this isnt the case everywhere
