Unusual lump after extraction!

    Hi,

I had a top wisdom tooth extracted approx 2 weeks ago. The dentist gave me the tooth afterwards. When I got home I had a look at the tooth and I noticed some bone attached to it. That maybe normal, I dont know. But now I have this sore lump just behind where the tooth was. When I touch it, it feels like something sharp under my gum.

Anyone know what this may be?

Teeth are imbeded in the jaw bone and attached to it via a ligament. To remove a tooth the bone must be expanded and broken to allow the tooth to come out. A big back adult tooth will nearly always have little bit of bone attached and thats nothing to worry about. (when you want implants after this may be a problem but you can get an atraumatic extraction which takes about twice as long...anyway). Also if a bit of broken bone is left behind it can get a bit sore. I had a upper wisdom tooth removed about 4 months ago and a little bit of bone was left. It came out of its own accord a few weeks later. But annoying and sore to touch but generally nothing to worry about. If it is very sore see your dentist agains

Had something similar after getting extractions done (before getting braces added). It did feel weird but didn't hurt at all. Went away, not sure how long though as I just forgot about it.

Thanx Guys. I'll just wait and see if it goes away.
