This GPS system is on sale in Halfords Sligo for E 229.99 New this system a couple of years ago was 1000 dollars and is based in the Hertz never lost System. As far as I can figure it has maps of all Europe on a built in Hard Disk and Maps of america and Canada which can be unlocked for E 200. :D

If you are a customer of AXA insurance you get 15 percent off which will bring the cost down to 195 Euro. :) Look at Axaplus.ie for details of this discount.

You can also get external antena on ebay for this if you require.

Have not got one myself as car has a factory fitted GPS. It is based on the Hertz Neverlost which I used several times in the US and found it very useable. It seams cheaper than many of the systems that just have UK and ROI maps. Even though it is 2 years old and there are newer designs, it was the business when it came out.

Reviews are generally good with some issues about the windshield mount.

Looks well built and should be a good buy. They are a lot dearer even to purchase reconditioned on the internet.

I would have got one if it was cheaper to unlock the US maps (200 Euro) as I would have covered its cost over a 3 week holiday and I could put in the POI before I left Ireland. :)

    Good review here. www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/magellan-roadmate-700-in-depth.html

They are selling it for 500 Sterling.

I have one of these and they are very good. I bought it about 8 months ago from halfords website, only problem is they don't deliver to the republic but got it delivered to a mates house in Derry instead. cost about 350 at that time. I have since paid the extra 60 to get the latest revision of maps available which is a must if you are going to use it in ireland as some of the maps you get on the system when yuo buy it are quite sparse.

its quite a big unit by modern standards and it has no internal battery so you can only use it while in your vehicle. the only other disadvantage is that you only get a top down 2D view of the maps, no 3D views which the newer systems might have. but for the amont of money you are talking aboutm that is an absolute steal. [FYI: these are apparantely the only systems that artic lorry drivers use on the continent and in ireland as they are the most reliable.]

do you know how much it is to get the US and Canada maps. I think it is 200 Euro. Also would a new unit come with the updated maps.
