    Recently my brother in laws Pc failed to start up,no fans starting up or anything,totally dead. I said it might be the PSU so went and bought one for him in Pc-world,a Jeantech 300watt to replace his 250watt. I replaced old with new and fan on cpu came on,lights around power button came on and thats it.

    I depressed the power button to knock it off but cpu fan keeps going,so I have to pull plug to knock it off.I get no beeps or post. Would this mean cpu is blown also or does anyone have any other ideas? I reset cmos also but still no post,also took out the one and only piece of ram that was in it to see if anything beeps but nothing. Its a 1.8celeron with onboard graphics,micro atx MB.

    A few possibility's come to mind though not a whole lot;

    *) Motherboard is not compatible with ATX revision of PSU (could happen with early P3/4 stuff)
    *) Something is shorting the system pull everything out of the case and see if it powers on outside the case.
    *) Motherboard is possibly dead.
    *) Damaged PCI peripherals pull any PCI cards from the system.

    The exact same problem happened to me with my e-machine tower a few months back, even bought a new PSU and still no luck. PC repair shop couldn't fix it, ended up buying a new system.

    sorry to go off topic but can anyone comment on the reliability of jeantech psu's, they are quite cheap in pc world and i need a cheap psu...

    also great advice about damaged pci cards. I had a system die on me months ago, and I couldn't find out what was wrong with it, despite rebuilding it, new parts, etc. But I was stupid enough to leave the creative soundblaster in the entire time. Ended up dumping the pc, and put the SB into another machine there a few days ago - wouldn't boot either. doh!
