I've been keeping an eye on this forum for the last couple of weeks and reading about the wii and I'm thinking of getting one. The only problem is that I'm not sure what the different accessories are/or do, and what's needed.

What's the nunchuk do? Do you need to buy a seperate scart cable (and why?)?

THe nunchuck is a controller that plugs into the main wii remote, you get one with the console, so don't worry about it. It's basically a small device with a small joystick and 2 trigger buttons. for some games (Boxing for one) you need the nunchuck.
Essentially you're holding one controller in each hand, and for Wii Sports boxing, the main remote is for controlling your right hand, and the nunchuck controls your left.
I can see a lot of sword figting / boxing games needing this setup.

The video cables that come with it ends 3 pin RGB (1 video, 2 audio), and there's an adaptor for SCART connections too. This should work with just about any TV made since 1980 :)
The other cables people are buying are the component cables for HDTVs, which gives 2 audio and 3 video pin connections.
If you have a HDTV it might be a good idea to get this eventually, the video quality improves a fair bit from what i've heard, but you don't actually NEED it.

    Thanks.

Another question: how does the internet on the wii work? Wil it connect to an already existing wireless router or does it need to be connected to a phone line?

Its wireless out of the box.

So long as your wireless router supports b/g wireless signal then you should be grand, and online in no time.
