    Had an inspiron 8600 which was running really slowly, virus scan, registry clean up etc produced no results.:mad: :mad: In the end installed windows xp again. Also installed all original drivers on disk. Now computer will not connect to wireless network in house. Intel Pro connects to wi fi network but does not allow it to use internet. Need to fix soon or arse will be will kicked. Thanks for assistance

    Open up a command prompt and type ipconfig, and hit enter.

    What IP address/subnet mask/default gateway does it give? Can you ping the IP address of your wireless access point/internet router?

    If you reinstalled then internet explorer might have gone back to its default setting which (I think) is to dial a network connection. Check that you have set this to 'never dial a connection' in tools, internet options, connections. If its not that then not sure.

    Have already checked Internet explorer no joy, unable to ping using windows xp, service pack 1 came with computer.

    WEP / WPA key or password will need to be reset if you have reloaded the OS, assuming your wireless is encrypted.

    Also, go to Start, Run, type cmd in the box, click OK, then type "ipconfig /all" at the command line and post back the response.

    Good news ethernet driver was not installed, for some reason not on disk of drivers that came with computer, thanks for your assistance anyhow
