I bought a Toshiba Satellite ProA100 just before Christmas and it was fine, now the sound has completely gone, including system sounds. I think I've checked everything I can, certainly the obvious mute buttons. Can anyone suggest anything obvious before I haul it into the supplier? Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Check Device Manager in the System applet located in Control Panel. Make sure there is no exclamation marks beside it.

Just one very obvious suggestion you may already have tried. Have you hooked it up to headphones or external speakers? If you can get sound that way then could just be a speaker issue or at least thats one thing you could rule out.

Ruu - Device Manager seems to be ok - certainly there are no exclamation marks and the device I think I need seems to be there. Walshki - yes I tried that, no sound at all. Thank you for your suggestions, it was working then just stopped - I tried system restore back to a time when it was ok (I had installed a new programme) but no luck. Back to the shop I think.:(

Try removing the drivers, restart and then reinstall them when Windows picks up the hardware.

Thanks for all the suggestions, it turned out to be the drivers. I wouldn't have tackled it myself but a friend was in who sorted it for me. Thanks all.
