Heard a rumour that MS are releasing drivers so that the 360 HD-DVD drive will work with PC. Anyone else heard this?

It will be supported by vista!

You will need a beefy PC to use it though!!

The Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive is nothing more than a Toshiba PC HD-DVD drive with a USB adapter built into the casing as such it will work perfectly fine in a PC.

Drivers are not needed unless you want to view the file system of HD-DVD discs which is what the UDF drivers are for or if you wanted read a HD DVD-R but those are quite rare.

The drivers do not need to be installed for playback of HD-DVD, the requirements are hefty but that is more down to sloppy coding from Intervideo and Cyberlink (the only two authorised software) players. In time the demands will come down as they will have to focus on better decoding performance (they sat on their asses for so long with only MPEG-2 for DVD's to contend with) or someone else with come out with something that will do better.

There is also the crappy HDCP limitation in that it will not allow playback over DVI unless the graphics card and display support HDCP but it will playback without HDCP support over VGA
