    hi i bought a SE k800i on expansys.ie

when it arrived i checked the sw ver and discovered

it had a product code of CDA102568/101 APAC GENERIC SINGAPORE / MALAYSIA / PHILIPINES.

i assumed that i would have got a uk model and when i checked the small details on the shipping note it said

sony ericsson k800i cybershot digital camera phone [china]
so it must be an import...

its working fine and no issues, but i contacted sony ericsson and they said the warranty is not supported in europe...

why would they supply an APAC model here in europe?

also do they have gsm 900 and 1800 in APAC?

expansys say they will take it back, and give a uk model, but i have to pay for shipping. bit mean eh? and talkes a week,,,

the phone has english menus... its it worth the hassle of sending it back?
or is the handset the same in all regions, except different language packs?

Before you send it back, try the following

Go to this link, it brings you to the SE Update service for your Phone SE K800i.
    http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=ie&lc=en&ver=4000&template=ps1_1_3_1_1&zone=ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10407&fid=21839&esi=true

Obviously read all the instructions before you do anything...

But if you decide to do this, while the K800i is being updated the SE Update program will show you what Version it will update to. eg Europe 2, Asia 1, China etc.

It MIGHT give you the option to select Europe 2 as it should see that you are located in Europe. I had a K700 that I bought in Thailand with Asia 2 on it, but when I updated it via the Update service it loaded it with Europe 2. Don't quote me on this now. But it is worth a try before you send it back.

    Good luck!
