Why not get a nano or similar with a video display and just get a large portable HDD? Anyone I know who ever gets these massive jukeboxes either breaks them, loses them, has them stolen, spills things on them, drops them in public toilets, or screws them up in anyone of a myriad of ways. And most people dont tend to back up what they have on these massive jukeboxes so u also lose all your music. Portable HDD to knack music from your friends. (Obviusly not copyright protected music, thats a CRIME!) and a nive 2 to 4 gb player? Smaller and more reliable FTW!

I'm in the same situation, I've a H140 and need more space, 80GB isn't even enough for me, so I'm kinda holding off to see who makes use of the new 100GB 1.8" drive. It will probably be iPod.

I used to be advising people against buying iPods because there were better players for cheaper, but they have come down in price €400 for an 80GB and it's even cheaper in the likes of Argos, €370 I think. Which is really good, and the most important thing is that you can put www.rockbox.org on it, so no need for iTunes or any of that crap.

So they have dropped in price, have big capacity and are rockbox compatible, only thing my H140 now has over it is optical ports, recording and radio, neither of which I use at all really. I'd get far greater use out of a bigger HD.

The best thing to do is get an external HD anyway so you have your music backed up. In fact, the best thing to do is to have 2 external HD's so if one messes up, you have a 2nd backup, this as well as your mp3 payer means you should never lose your collection.

Was in PC world and they have a 400gb external HD for just under 150 euro. Its small, quiet and neat.

Most of the points made in previous post are true, but the advantage of a large memory device is the fact that you don't have to carry around two devices at the same time. As well as that, the large size memory devices have the video function on them and the ipod nano does not have this function.

The creative zen v plus (available in 2gb, 4gb or 8gb) has the video function but the screen size is tiny. The OP makes note that he wants a large size screen.

OP I would recommend one of the new archos players. They have nice size screens and are not too expensive at the moment. The 404 is a compact size screen

im not familiar with rockbox iv known of it for years but was never too shure bout it, im the same as u really the h120 has those features but only use them once in a blue moon.

i have all my music and other stuff on an external hd a 120gb which is nearly full so im one step ahead there. didnt know adgus had the ipods for cheaper they are honestly looking like my only.

thanks to the other dudes for their help but whats the point in a nano that holds like 6gb id fill that up in one transfer of albums i have a huge collection of music hense a nearly full 120 gb external hard drive and have a 20gb player that i have to remove old albums from it to add new ones well i did have to do that now i can lol

U wouldnt have to carry around your external HDD. You could just copy over the 4 gigs of music that you wanted to listen to that day and rotate. Then you wouldnt get lost in a jungle of 80 gigs of music, and strangely would probably end up listening to more music that got neglected on that massive and difficult to search through mp3 jukebox.

That can become a right pain in the arse. There's nothing more I hate having to do than to choose who to delete to make room for new albums, I'd get very upset having to wave goodbye to some albums every day:D

I find it the opposite with regards being forced to listen to new music too, if you have the space, you're more likely to put on music you're not sure about, but if it's too small, you tend to keep safe and just stick with what you know.

I find my H140 a great tool for discovering new music, properly.

X5s are great, you can get 60GB models for as little as €210 on ebay and they are pretty much the same physical size as an iPod. The screen isn't that bad for playing videos. In particular it's grand for playing episodes of cartoons, but if you plan on watching a lot of films etc. on it you might be better off getting something else.
