I've a 200gig drive that my system can't see the contents. It's from a computer I had that crashed and died on me, and ever since the drive is in my new PC, the system can't see it's contents. I downloaded a trial version of Norton Ghost 10, the program seems to be able to back up the contents but I will need a 200+gig drive to back up the contents onto. If I was to purchase a 200+gig drive and performed a back up on it do you think I would get my data back? I might also need to purchase the Norton Ghost Product License to save it. Would it be worth trying?

Have you tried using Spinrite on your HD?

I've used this before, only rebuilds certain types of files, but worked okay, you'll need some free space to save recovered files and it's usually a slow process

I downloaded Final Recovery that scans drives that may be faulty. It's a very slow process but I'm able to get my files back :D when I get all my files back and save them onto a DVD disk and then format the faulty drive, would it be ok to use again? If it caused my old system to die on me surely all the data would be gone??? I don't want to fork out for another HDD.
