    Help!

Can anyone recommend a good vet anywhere in Dublin (closer to North Dublin/City would be best but not essential) that specialises in bird care?

Sick budgie losing feathers fast, also has very nasty beak sore!! :(

    Thank you!

Her number is 01-2723857, she does have a website (www.veterinary.ie) but it appears to be broken at the moment. I can give you directions if you need them.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the messages, I was eager to get a bird specialist and I know not all vets are, but last night I started really panicking because it was losing feathers by the hour.

I got up first thing this morning and brought the poor little thing to a vet in Clontarf (there was no way I could have gotten to Bray early today and they had a free appointment so I took a chance).

Turns out it has mites in its beak and feet. The vet gave it an injection and I've to go back in a fortnight and get another one done.

He said that it looks to him like the bird is pulling out its own feathers. I noticed him at the skin but not actually pulling feathers out, but there you go.

He reckons the bird is bored even though he shares a cage with another budgie who is fine! I've to get different toys, rotate them around the cage and make sure they get plenty of treats and mirrors to keep them occupied.

We'll see how it goes for him over the next fortnight. I just wanted to thank you for responding to me and to put this up here in case anyone else has the same problem in the future.

Also, the vet and the nurse were really great down there today so if anyone wants a recommendation for Clontarf Veterinary Clinic on the Malahide Road, now you have one :)
