I sat down this evening at 9.30 to watch, maybe a good movie seeing as it is christmas and all. What RTE presented to me was pure sh1te.

I saw a bunch of grannies attempting to place cubes in holes, something which could have lasted 5 mins but somehow took a full half an hour

If I pay my television licence, then I expect something good, not a pile of sh1t.

    rant over

Yeah i have to agree, RTE is pretty sh!t when it comes to movies at christmas time. When they do show a movie, they've prob showed it a month before hand as well

Couldn’t agree more. I also expected the weekly mid-week movie. the other disgrace was veronica Guerin was only premier aired last nite.anything to save money

Your spelling is awful. Please go back to school.

You come on here with just 4 posts and instead of contributing to the original post you go and start mocking someone. That’s not on at all.

I thought it was funny. People really should install spellchecker addons for Firefox, or copy and paste it to Word if they plan to be regular contributors to Boards. ZOMG ITS LIK DE PPL DAT USE TXT SPK!!!!!!1! - both are equally as annoying.

I have only 4 posts. Would it be ok to correct someone if I had more posts?
    I have just joined Boards.
Regarding movies on RTE 1, I think they are showing a reasonable selection. If you were confined to watching, say BBC1, would you be happy with their selection/scheduling of movies?

right get over it 1.i cant install spell checking software cos im on a psp. 2.im 15 and still in school.

oh and BTW ive edited my previous post..Hope its to everyone Satisfaction..Got get with it..Txt speak is the way words are gonna be written in the future..now can we get back to topic from here on

Maybe there are people who like Winning Streak? I'm not one of them, but it does have an audience, maybe you are not in the target audience?

Look, I don't mean to mock anyone. The schedule over Christmas changes a lot from the normal schedule on all channels. Just because there wasn't a movie on RTE1 at 2130 on Wednesday is not a reason to say that they are sh1t.

Totally agree! The usual show on Saturdays isn't much better. The contestants (usually ould ones) just touch objects on a big computerised screen to see how much they've won. There's no element of real chance or skill. Not to mention when they spin the wheel, gravity doesn't seem to affect the little ball! It miraculously stays in a certain slot even when the wheel is still moving! Also Derek Mooney is a condesending and patrionising host.

    in your opinion

if you compare them to other European broadcasters then we are doing quite well

What a ridiculous thread. The "I pay a license fee therefore I should decide what is on TV" argument is pointless. So you turned on your TV and there was no film, they do publish television listings these days as well as provide information on Aertel and cable/sat EPG's. Perhaps had you consulted one of them you wouldn't have been so shocked and obviously appalled by what you were seeing. Now I'm no fan of Winning Streak but as a previous poster stated it has an audience, it does well in the ratings and it's a consistent performer. From that it would be safe to assume a lot of license fee payers are very happy.

I'm sure anyone here, if they were called, would gladly appear on the show. After all its free money, i think.

The format of the show isn't exactly that challenging. It's really up to how the computer is programmed which determines whether you get €10,000 or €100,000.

At least in "Who wants to be a millionaire" there is some challenge - i.e a test of your general knowledge. The only thing testing about Winning Streak is having to listen to Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee from Derek Mooney :D:D

Watching the show and actually playing in the show are completely different things imo. tbh its a bit like golf (to me anyways) - Boring to watch, fun to play

    What's so ridiculous about it?

I loathe Winning Streak at the best of times; a primetime slot on a saturday night allocated to a show sponsored by the National Lottery as both a marketing vehicle for it's range of scratchcards and to show the country exactly how much of a c*nt Derek Mooney really is.

For that to receive airtime during the christmas holidays is a downright joke.

I don't really care if it's target audience are happy; it's one week of the year when they could have rescheduled or skipped it for the benefit of the greater viewing public, who god forbid might actually like to watch something half decent be it a film or something festive or whatever...

On the point of RTÉ not showing good movies, I hadn't seen Veronica Guerin or Love Actually so that wasn't bad, well, until it got to the part which (my girlfriend told me) were supposed to include subtitles for the portuguese. About half an hour of the film were a complete mystery to me.

I do wonder about the Winning Streak, but it obviously draws in the crowds and you can't please everyone. Plus no-one is forcing you to watch just Winning Streak, there are other channels.

I wasn't impressed with the lack of subtitles neither. Hadn't a clue what they were on about.

To be honest the other RTE channels arn't the best either
