I came across www.tversity.com which was suggested as an alternative to the Windows Media Centre. I was wondering has anyone had any experience with this programme and could perhaps tell us about their experience with it.

    Thanks

Tversity can be used instead of media center or media player 11 on xp if you are looking to stream media that needs to be converted to the required format of the 360. It also allows you to play podcasts and some online radio stations too.

so unless you need to convert stuff to play id stick with media player 11 or media centre

a new version has been released recently which has solved a few problems just updating it now myself

So can I connect my laptop/360 etc. over my wireless network with WMP 11 only without the Media Centre? I just have a regular version of XP.

Yes. The original software needed to stream media ('media connect') is now integrated into WMP11. However, a number of us have had problems with WMP11 and use TVersity. It works for me for streaming pictures to my tv wirelessly but it has a woeful interface in my opinion.

Thanks Myksyk. I would rather use WMP 11 so I might try that out first.

Does either WMP11 or TVersity allow you to stream non wmv video files (eg. xvid files) to your xBox360 without the need for Windows XP Media Center Edition ?

    Cheers,
    TC

TVersity does, it encodes them in real time. Its very handy but has a few bugs but i havnt tried that new version so hopefully that will have fixed alot of them.

    /Edit: looks like it has:
    Bug fixes and more

    * Fix issues related to premature termination when transcoding to WMV (this should solve the famous termination problem with the Xbox 360).
    ...
i havnt tried it yet but this was one of the these that was driving me mental with it

I've been using TVersity since some of the earlier beta versions. They've still a lot of work to do on it(the interface especially) but when it's been finalised it's going to be one amazing piece of software.

The latest version has solved a lot of issues which were making it almost useless for streaming to the Xbox 360. It works a treat now, with only one or two minor bugs still cropping up. These guys are working really hard on it though, and fixes are being released fairly often. I can now watch my episodes of Heroes/Dexter/Lost and my errrm DVD rips on the TV downstairs(streaming via wireless connection from the computer in my attic bedroom) with the family using the Xbox 360. It's converting all of these from AVI to WMV for me on the fly which is just brilliant tbh! :)

whats the maximum video resolution you people use? any other settings that newbie's should know about to tweak performance?
Will it have enough bandwidth on a wireless B network or woulg a G be much better?

I've been using 720 x 480 or just doing a straight conversion of the video I'm converting. If you bump up the res you need to have a pc that can handle it.
