Hi, I hope you get over the newbie loump and enjoy your model soon ;)

    Are all the batteries charged?
Glo-plug good? [they can die very easy during break in]
It sounds a bit rich and the idle is off, try reseting them again if you havn't

Thats not a whole lot of help but I hope it is some:D

    As Flunked said.
    Are your Batteries fully charged?
Sounds to me like the failsafe is kicking in.. Could be wrong though.;)

Sometimes Factory settings can be wrong as in the Revo 3.3.. Lots of guys found they might have to turn both needles out alomst a full turn from factory to get them to run right. Is it getting hot?
Maybe you have an airleak somewhere?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9 xtz750

yeh it gets hot but how hot should it get?were would the airleak come from?
    cheers

    Can come from several places.
I am not that familiar with the Savage but you could try the Tank lid which was one to watch on the revo ( the "O" ring that seals the lid.. Also try the fuel lines... Back Plate... make sure carb is set properly ..
Other than that. The only thing I can say is make sure it is getting enough fuel.;)

The factory settings are only a guideline. Not a precise and correct adjustment.
your engine is either too rich or too lean from what it needs.
I guess too rich, but you must decide.
Try the FAQ page here for a step by step corrective approach to getting your model engine tuned right: http://www.greenhobbymodel.com/index.html
There is also a lot of info here on tuning and running in and settings: http://uk.geocities.com/norm_flyer/index.htm Look at the running-in engines page

    thanks for the replys guys,
had her out there and only for the high idle seems not to bad,but it good be better, need the right man to fine tune.dosent want to go into 2nd gear, could that be a problem with tuning?are does it need adjusted, last owner had it set up.thanks.

ps,the kid loved it anyway:D but us big kids like more power:) :)

Could most likely be tuning. if badly tuned it may not reach high enough revs to hit the change point.
    OTOH.
The previous owner may have altered the change point. you may need to read the manual on how to adjust this.
    OR
If you are running it on high grass it may just be a drag factor that is holding it back ;)

Adjusting the gear change is a delicate thing.
But correct tuning is more important to being able to use the model.
I would try to master tuning it first, before trying to improve on the clutch gearchange.
Probably better to leave messing about with gear settings until 4 - 6 weks time.

i might way to lean if its cutting out and getting really hot, if it was just cutting out while running cool it would be rich but not in this case. i say ricken it 1 full turn or maybe two at the most.

ok thanks guys, will have to get it tuned to its optimum, then the rest will come, when running it today was getting some smoke out of it but would like to see more, hopefully the weather changes cause theres a club not to far away,im sure the right man will have it running in no time.

any other members on this side of the border?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,248 ✭✭✭Plug

Not that i know of:( I would think the closest are the "navan nitro nuts";)

If you got a HPI dvd with the savage I'd recommend looking at the tuning tutorial on it xtz, it's pretty good and easy to understand, there's also a turorial on how to alter the gear change settings but I wouldn't even think of doing that until you have the high speed needle tuned.

As a matter of interest. What Nitro are you using?

    Also
Yes there are lots of lads up your way.
    "North West Model car Club"
    They are in Ballymoney

There is another club up your way that meet very often.
    Ulster Model Car Club Link
They meet again on the 13th January in Bangor
check on their web page in the link above.
Even though they only race electric, Some of them will know where to point you .;)

    Failing that.
    Give these guys a shout.
    Rennicks Modeltune

They sell Byrons Nitro which is supposed to be the "Dogs Danglies" ;)
They are also involved in Sponsorship for local clubs etc.

    Have fun bud.

    Just edited my post above
Put some extra info on there for you.
I ran Tornado 25% in my 3.3 revo and to be honest that is what I blame for the engine blow.. :(

Get some Byrons from Modeltune in the link above.
    Cheers

    Good stuff.
Keep in touch with Rennicks Excellent guys there and very helpful. Give them a ring and they will let you know where the racing is happening. You could bring the Savvy along with you and someone would give it a tune for you at the meeting. ;)
