If you're happy with technology, you'll probably get more bang for your buck using a P.C., decent soundcard, some software and a microphone. Plucking a figure out of my head to buy everyting including the PC, you're looking at 1200-1500.

If you prefer simplicity to functionality, look at a multi track hard disk recorder. The zoom MRS-4B recoreds to flash memory and is at the budget end

You'd need to add a decent sized memory card and a mic.

I don't want to say more until I have more info on what you need to accomplish.

Micha, it depends on what your Budget is. I'm in the process of revising my studio, and I'm spending quite a bit of money, but it's possible to do it quite cost effectively. Will you just be singing, or will you be playing an Instrument? If it's just singing, then a Mic directly into your PC with some decent software will be fine.

If you're singing, and playing an Instrument, I find it much easier to have a Mixer on my desk, I use a 4 channel Mixer with a Guitar, a Microphone, and then piggybacked off that, I have a rack cabinet with an EQ, a Guitar Synth, a Guitar Amp, a Vocal FX unit, and have the whole lot directed into some good quality monitors (Or speakers as some people call them :) )

It's horses for courses. Post another message, tell us about the Music you want to make, and the Instuments you may use.

A few questions and I can give you a few pointers on exact equipment and required set up suggestions. Do you have a PC that you can use for recording? Have you much experience working with recording software? Do you have any equipment at the moment? Do you play any instruments?

Can make your home PC as a complete Recording studio to record, edit, and play. The basic prerequisite to get a level of recording are a PC, Microphone, Speakers, headphones and an inexpensive recording and editing software with this you can produce high-quality, effective voice and music recordings. Suggests FlexiMusic Wave Editor, easy to use, downloadable and affordable editing and recording software.
