Breaking news at this early hour, or late hour in the US...

Gerald Ford, former President of the USA, has died. He holds the distinction of being the only US President never to be elected to the office as a direct candidate, taking the office of vice-president after the resignation of Spiro Agnew, and becoming president after the resignation of Richard Nixon.

Indeed, 93 years is a very full life. Fair play to him.

He had one of the most unenviable jobs in politics at that time - having to clean up after Nixon and Agnew.

He took a brave decision in pardoning Nixon - brave in the context that he was always going to be associated with Nixon and that came back to get him in the elections 2 years later.

With Ford dying, does this mean that George Bush (Snr.) is the oldest living former President or is Carter still alive??
