    Snapper, whats your question/comment?
You got it all in with shallow stacks with an overpair on a Q-high board, it's as standard as they come since Villain could have any Q, and flush draw, and two pair or set.

Okay , probably is pretty boring standard stuff. Posted this on impulse I suppose after yet another dollop of variance.

Anyhow, The turn river A's were insignificant. The guy flopped a set with 88 and I suppose I know the answer but, while my gut agree's fully with this.
Your play looks correct - shallow stacked I'm getting it in with KK on that board without a very specific reason not to. Probably an ugly turn and river for you - take it to the BB sticky if so.

Is there a level of competence were we can get away from this or not go broke.
I have pondered this dilemma lately since running into a set happens quite a lot.
    standard/boring.

You felt strongly enough about it to bother making this condecending retort.
Your poker abilities and opinions along with a few others are why I read this board, but frankly this is the kind of answer thats become all too common on here and can only serve to discourage.

I really wasn't trying to be condescending, and I think my response said the same as Lloyd's.

It's not about "competence" of your opponent as you seem to think, this hand would be standard/boring whether you played it against Phil Ivey or Reggie Lyons.

No you were trying to be condescending, but this hand is standard and boring and I think Brendan may have posted it in frustration imo cos he's a much better player than he makes out.

If its a simple case of accepting the " your ahead more often than not so getting all your chips in here is + ev " then yes, its boring bog-standard stuff ( at least for the reasonably profficient player ).

But, is it pie in the sky to think or explore the possibility that maybe just maybe, we can improve to or even aspire to a level were we can sniff out these situations and not pay him off. Are there players out there who do just this on even the rare occasion.

Also, and I mean this sincerely and not as a jibe at anyone, would'nt it be healthier for the boards community if posters did'nt respond if and when they consider a given topic boring standard clap trap. Relative to their standards, it may well be the bottom rung, bargain basement stuff, but to others its an important step in the learning process.

    end of rant.:)

No it would not be. After I took the time to respond to the hand you learnt how I would play the hand and that I didn't consider it close. This is pretty valuable information and shouldn't stop someone else from responding to say no, they don't consider it standard or boring, what read did you have on villain, fold equity, tournament life, payout structure, stop and go the turn, etc.
