I got a piano for christmas which was totally unexpected but awesome :)

Anyway I need to get it tuned. Do i just look in the paper and get some random guy to do it or whats the best route?

How much should it cost also? Its not in a horrible condition so I don't think its a big job.

you're in the Galway area i gather? I can recommend someone, Ciaran Ryan, he's in the phonebook. Our piano is an oul crock, but he's always made it playable.

congrats on the new piano too

    Wow - cool present!!

Get whoever comes to tune it to have a good look at it. It may need a general 'service'. Things like the felt pads on the hammers may need replacing. I gather it's a second hand piano, but it may need to be 'pitch raised' depending on how out of tune it is. If you plan to play it with other instruments and/or backing tracks then you will need to have it in concert pitch. My piano, bought second hand, is a whole tone out of tune (Bb), but is in perfect relative pitch. I generally play it solo so the fact that it's Bb doesn't matter much. I enquired about having it pitch-raised but was advised against it as there is a good possibility that strings may snap!

Best of luck with the piano!
