    Noticed that the Dart station in DL now has this written on the sign. What the hell is Mallin?

    Some lad who was in the Rising methinks, they named a load of train stations after leading figures as part of the 50th anniversary in '66.

    If you ask this to be moved to Commuting/Transport you'll get a proper answer.

    EDIT - Maybe this guy

    All the country's main train stations were named after those IRA 1916 heads. Connolly, Pearse, Heuston and Bray Daly stations spring to mind.

    I think Dún Laoghaire station was simply known as "Dún Laoghaire" after the DART was introduced. "Mallin Station" was its name before then. IÉ are simply reintroducing some of the old names to the DART system.

    In other towns, we have, for example:

    Clarke Station, Dundalk;
    McBride Station, Drogheda;
    Kent Station, Cork;
    etc.
