    Happy Christmas!

Trying to set up Xbox live on my 360 for the first time, connection is fine, but when i got to "Join Xbox Live", it tells me it first needs to update. I try this, but then it says there is a problem with the connection, which there isnt because when I test it, it's fine.

I've tried port forwarding and the advice in the two threads below, but to no avail!

Can anyone offer any pearls of wisdom and get me online?

Nevermind, I turned down the firewall on my router to low instead of moderate.

    Did the trick.

Instead of turning down the firewall simply place the Xbox 360's IP address in the DMZ zone of your router which will isolate it from the firewall resolving most of your connection issues as hackers can't do anything to a games console over the net so it's fine outside the firewall.

You router must actually have the DMZ feature to do this though.

(Don't ever put your PC in the DMZ though!)

ok - im going to assume that you have an eircom broadband account: the problem that you and many have had is that the modem you have is set up in such a way that it is not allowing other devices to use it - you need to go into the settings and change one little option - its quite easy - here are the instructions:

copy and paste this url into your browser: http://192.168.1.254/

on the left hand side of the screen are options - click on expert mode and click yes to acess it

on the left hand side of the screen click onconfigure and 2 sub options will open up - click on connection - now the screen will have lots of info on it but at the end of the screen will be UpNP: (this stands for universal plug and play) with a green arrow ticked - click on the arrow to untick it - i.e TURN IT OFF) - then save and restart

it will take a few seconds and now when you try to get your update and access xboxlive it sould be fine and dandy

NOW WOULD SOME MODERATOR PLEASE MAKE THIS A STICKY AS THIS HAS BEEN PLAUGING XBOX OWNERS SINCE THE LAUNCH OF THE 360
