Possible Computer Hardware Problem

    Hi All,

    First - Happy Christmas! :)

Second - I could do with some help. We recently got a laptop which since first turning it on has been running (very) slow and making lots of noise etc. Now this laptop was delivered a few months ago but had to go back to the supplier to change the windows on it into english! Anyway, I suspect that somewhere along the way it was dropped and there is something physically wrong with it - but obviously I cant be sure. I wont be opening it. We'll be sending it back to the manufacturer/supplier shortly but obviously Im not sure whats actually wrong with it. Can you tell me is there any particular (benchmarking?) software that might analyse the system and show that its not running as it should?

    Anyway input appreciated - thanks!

What is the make/model of the laptop? Is the slowness of it all that you are noticing?

    Ruu,

Its a Gericom 1st Supersonic. Yeah its very slow - even doing the most basic things. It also makes a fairly loud clicking noise when the CPU is in use...

I have the same computer(last years model) and its great so we ordered one this year (for my brother) but its really bad.

The clicking could be the hard drive beginning to fail, you should backup the files that you can just to be sure. For the slowness problems, try running anti-spyware/malware and an anti-virus scan.

Thanks for the suggestions - important files backed up. I should point out that this was a new computer - and it was slow the first time we used it so I dont think that spyware is the problem. I think it may have been dropped/manhandled. Could that account for the slowness?
