Just wanted to know whether the component cable by MadCatz makes a major difference to the Wii, and if the leap in quality is worth 30 yo yos. What does the Wii look like without component cables on a HDTV?(Getting my Wii tomorrow)

I've seen the difference with a PS2 between composite and component and it's like night and day. Definitely go for the component, you won't be disappointed

Um, I'm sure this has been asked countless times, but here I go anyway.....

To my shame, I don't really know anything about HDTV's or component cables or anything, so would getting a component cable make any difference if I was just using your standard old CRT (albeit a relatively new model [bout 18 month old])?

Well at least that means I don't have to worry about it so! Like I said, HDTV stuff, way over my head. Thanks

And does anyone know how much better the Wii Browser is in HD?

    NO.

Why, because the wii regardless of component output does NOT do HD.

It has progressive scan support for SD resolution.

There is little difference between wii browser whether you select 480p/ 480i / 576i on the wii setup.

The browsing remains still near impossible to read text when its zoomed out regardless.

For the same reason things like the UNISON internet box for your TV failed in Ireland, wii browser suffers from the same problem.

Websites are not designed for SD resolutions period.

Yes the madcatz component cables are definitely worth getting. I've been using them for the last few days and you get a much sharper image. As scrapland says the Wii doesn't do true HD but the components will give you the best picture you can get. Imo the browser is pretty crap anyway, one page at a time and having to zoom to read anything properly is a pain. It's a nice novelty at first but it could never hope to compete with browsing on a pc etc.

I have been playing Zelda on my 26" Samsung HDTV and it looks very unclear in places, will this be sorted through the cables?

my hdtv only has dvi-i input (rather than component). Thinking of getting something like this component to dvi cable. anyone know if I will get the same benefit thru this?

To the person who posted asking about component with a standard res CRT television: it's unlikely, but not impossible, that there are component inputs on your TV. If there are, using a component cable WILL give you noticable improvement over composite. If not you could still get an RGB SCART cable (nintendo do an official one) which will also noticibly improve the picture.

rip2roar: Component cable should give you some improvement but there may be other reasons that your image is unclear. Those Samsung TVs seem to be pretty good though, from what I've seen.

You sure it isn't DVI-D that your telly has ? DVI-I is DVI-D and VGA in the same connector. Didn't know of any tellies with DVI-I but I'm sure I've been wrong before...

i have the game brand cable and i'm just wondering if anyone has heard of any difference in quality between them and the other cables around.

You can only use component cables if they have HDTV/EDTV compatible written on the back of the game box.Otherwise i think the game looks unclear like rip2roar said and Zelda does not say HDTV/EDTV compatible on the box

a friend tried to pick me up some component cables in the states last week, everywhere had the mad catz cables, but nearly every store told him they were pretty poor quality.

just picked up some official ones in game henry st

now i just need a bleedin telly to go with it!

Got the Mad Catz Comp cables in Gamestop at the weekend. I'm not great on the technical side of these things, but i can tell you that the picture does seem to be a good bit sharper. Not sure if it's 30 quids worth of sharpness, mind you.

Anyone know if any HMV branches are doing the cables yet?

I have a €30 voucher burning a hole in my pocket.

cognos, u can connect the component cables through the scart. see the screen with the 3 points symbol? that means that it accepts component input through it. i saw an adaptor from component to scart in peats the other day.

Anyone with CRT TVs should get themselves a Scart cable. The image quality is hugely improved over the cable supplied.
