Just lettig anyone who wants to know know... doe sthat make sense (know know) eh

ok well anyway the celtic whisky show is selling some great absinthe atm
there is a box set with 4 different naggans of absinthe (70% 75% 80% 85%)
    Green - the usual
red - amazing when mixed with a pernod and black my head is melted)
    blue - havent tried
black - Wow 85% is some good ****

Its a great gift idea and its also great if you drink it yourself its only 40 euro
aswell as that they also sell large bottles of each absinthe

EDIT: i don't get it tho it says on the bottle that it has thurjane in it (for those that don't know real absinthe is supposed to have thurjane and wormwood in it but its illegal to have that in most countries so whenever i see absinthe with thurjane written on the bottle in this country i always assume its just thurjane flavoring, but i actually have a feeling that it might be popper absinthe.....

if you drink absithe right with the whole water/ special spoon/sugar cube its supposed to give you weird dreams and i sure had some weird dreams last nite, what i cant remember is if its the thurjane or the wormwood that contains the mild haulasangan (don't worry you don't see **** because in order to drink enough absinthe to actually have an effect you would probbley die from alcahol posining) it just effects your dreams

Thujone is illegal above a certain tiny amount per litre in the EU as far as I know

it veries depending on country, amsterdam sells thujone actually sells it in VERY VERY small viles with one of those water dripper things so you can just add a few drops to any bottle you buy

Wormwood contains Thujone and Thujone is the hallucinogenic. Although your right, absinth doesn't have enough for you to get the full effects but the alcohol coupled with the suggestion can make people do some stupid things.

I got some Polish absinthe there about two months ago when I was over there. It said it was "made from the finest wormwood" but really it did nothing to me except get me very drunk (tequila + absinthe >.<) and it was only 55% (well that is high, but some absinthes go up to 85%-90%) and it tastes delicious too (only if you like liquorice though, I had some friends who hate liquorice drink it and they found it to be nasty)

A word of warning about absinthe though (though I'm sure this applies to all spirits, I dunno I dont drink that much) it kinda sneaks up on you, you don't feel yourself getting nicely tipsy, thwn drunk, then on your face, with absinthe you'll be fine talking about third world politics one moment, the next you'll hardly be able to stand straight!

I really believe any time anyone has a "crazy experience" with Absinthe it's placebo - they just got really drunk due to the high alcohol content and thought it was something mroe.

No, I've never had Absinthe, but I dont' get it's glorification, it has a small amount of a hallucinogenic drug in it, but it's in quatities too low to have any effect, and if you drank enough for it to have an effect then you'd be too wasted to notice.

Oh, and I thought absinthe was illegal to sell, but not to import here, no?

shops can now sell it also i belive that revels sell it now both offo and pub.
if ur looking to buy it has to be the celtic whisky shop in town tho.

drinking it again last nite 85% absinthe is so nice and its been so long since i had it

EDIT: i dont like liquorice tho but i love absinthe dont ask me what the deal with that is.

I treid the Black Absinthe in Spain before, to be honest even though it was marked 85%, i found this hard to believe, it seemed no stronger than the green stuff.

It's all different to be honest. I had a shot of Black Absinthe and I couldn't breathe as it fizzed up in my throat for about 5 seconds.

I can handle the green stuff quite well.

I used to think the same, until I went to Prague a couple of years ago with some friends. One evening in a pub two of them starting drinking absinthe; the rest of us only had one, but these two had about four or five as far as I remember, and the effects were quite distinct from being drunk.

They were still speaking clearly and coherently, but their perceptions of what was going on around them was pretty screwed up. For example, we went to a club where we handed in our coats to the cloakroom and got tickets for when we wanted to collect them. One of the boys then spent twenty minutes articulately explaining to me how the club had actually implemented a system where everyone was graded on their looks when they entered, was then given a ticket and you were only allowed to talk/score people who were as attractive as you

This was no placebo effect (believe me - that's 20 minutes of my life I'll never get back!).

I thought I was getting the "real deal" buy buying lots in Poland, but no, it's just very high alcohol content gorgeous tasty stuff that wasn't too expensive, so I'm a little dissappointed but can't really complain :)

    As above, I don't believe it's a Placebo effect.

Nothing like some proper hallucinagenics, but there's a very, very different vibe when you drink absinthe.

well I find that every drink produces a different drunk effect, so I would suggest trying it just for that. Also having drank about a naggins worth of 80% black absinthe(no wormwood) it was the closest thing to a trip I've had yet, if that helps...

The effects that absinthe is said to have had when it was a favourite tipple of the arty set in the 18th and 19th Centurys are quite similar to the effects of lead poisoning.

Absinthiana, particulary the spoons, were once often made of lead or lead alloy.

    Conclusions...
