How big would an audiobook be if it was at mp3 128kbps, and about 400 pages in paper form?
my uncle wants an mp3 player and i don't know about audiobooks at all so I'm trying to figure out what size he needs

Well, how long is the audio book? Then it's about a meg per minute.

Kind of like asking how long is a piece of string but I'll try answer as best I can.

My usual rule of thumb is that (at 128kbps) "1 minute = approx 1 megabyte". So if an audiobook is 10hours long in total you are gonna need around 600 megabytes of space.

However the thing is because it's not music (just some guy talking for the most part) then you can easily get away with just having it ripped at 32kbps (rather than 128kbps) and hense fit 4 times as much onto your player. It's up to you I guess.

I got all 6 Harry Potter books a while back and the whole lot weighed in at just 1.8 Gigabytes. So that's a lot of reading and it didn't even make a dent on most conventional mp3 players out these days.
