Thats Sky HD with a proper full spec hd tv? (1080)

What is the standard that Sky are using and is it true HD?

Who has been watching episodes of lost? Are there any artifacts on screen and is it as sharp as a proper HD demo from a blue ray disk for instance?

What offers have anyone got in the post that might differ from the publically quoted offers for this ie box price and sub.

Sales are coming up so Convince me! I'd prefer a philips (the 9681 series I think) so a trip to that philips store in is it aungier st or Georges st is on the cards...

Actually that one and its family seem to be the proper spec though no mention of the nice ambi light.

I particularally want to hear views on the QUALITY of Sky HD on a 1080 like the above :)

All the Philips I have looked at were 1366 x 768. OK on SD, but not as good on SD as my CRT. We have it in Work. Waiting for SkyHD box.

IMO Ambilight is an irritating gimick. OK if there is an off switch.

Sky1 *IS* a lot of upscaled SD. Some live sport Sky OB and Nat Geo HD and Discovery HD have some real 1080i content.

Very, very few screens do 1080i. Most internally convert to Progressive and then back to what ever wierd native refresh architecture the screen uses.

A test pattern of alternate lines is interesting, followed by jiggling animated solid vertical bar:

Screens with 1080i -> 540p rescaled to 768p = solid grey (most cheaper HD ready xxxx X 768 resolution screens simply only take one field of 1080i, i.e. half the lines 25x sec)

Screens with 1080i -> 1080p internally poorly done = Solid grey

Screens with 1080i -> 1080p internally well done = alternate lines and later jiggled vertical bar has fuzzy edge.

Screens with 1080i native = alternate lines and later jiggled vertical bar has grey (distant view) / combed (closer view) edge.

Screens with conversion to 30i or 60p, 85p = either severe comb artifact on moving vertical bar or very blurred. Alternate line pattern is blurred to grey, possibly with moire fringing bands (PC screens).

On PC type screen picking 75Hz or 100Hz if possible improves image a lot compared with 60 or 85 (normal PC defaults). A lot of PC LCD monitors only do 60Hz.
