What's the story with buying games on this. Do you have to get a points card in a games shop, or can you buy them direct online once you log onto it? Thanks

you can buy them once you log in to the Wii shop with a Visa or Mastercard CC.
It also works out cheaper than buying them in the shops (€30 for 3000 points, compared to €25+ for 2000 points)

Your best option is to buy the points directly from the wii shop; it's the best price you'll get plus it's the most convenient way to get them.

Excellent i was hoping you could do that as i'm done with all the christmas shopping and would hate to have to head into the cattle marts they call shops tommorow ;) Thanks all

There's nothing like curling up on the couch and downloading a couple of VC games, enjoy:)

remember the time when nintendo said all vc games would be free

Havent got a wii myself, but the idea sounds intriguing, and horribly under advertised.
Whats the story with getting free points through playing games? Is it through online tournaments or what? and how tough are the points to get?

Have to say I'm kind of disappointed with the selection of games to date. No Super Mario Bros (aside from the awful 3d one) and no Mario Kart :(

Good to see Sega licensed some of their games for it though, who'd have seen the day would come when you could play Sonic the Hedgehog on a nintendo?

I was about to invest in some vc games today until I remembered I need the other controller to play them :(

Have to say, since opening the Wii last night I am totally hooked...best console ever. Although the boxing nearly killed me with a few beers on me :D The bowling is excellent too. Zelda is being held back till tomorrow :)

Whats the story with the Mii things, wandering off to other peoples consoles and that?!

You can play most of them on the Wiimote (turn it sideways) and all of them on the GC controller.

^^ actually it is you who is wrong (loving this)
gamecube controller works with all consoles (besides the very odd game)

    dont believe me
ive seen people playing super mario 64 with a gc controller sure

''The controllers from the Nintendo GameCube can be used for all Nintendo systems' games, however Nintendo's site claims that it can only be used with some TurboGrafx-16 and Sega Genesis titles.[''

    thats from wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Console_%28Wii%29

No, afaik you can only download them onto your Wii, then back them up to SD if you want. You can't play VC games from mem card, only from the Wii itself and only on the Wii that you downloaded the game in the first place.

Referring to the Mega Drive as a Genesis? Should get a site ban for that ;)

All you have to do is put it into the SD slot and you can then access it through the Data Management menu (Save Data or Wii Channels).

As a matter of interest, do you think someone will eventually come out with some hack that will allow roms to be put onto SD cards and played on the Wii?

Not that I really want to myself. I still have all my old consoles with hundreds of games. So I really have no interest in the virtual console at all. Just thought it would be a pretty devastating development for Nintendo.

it will happen eventually..............would be good for peeps who dont have broadband like me[cant get it]
