Console settings I believe, make sre you put the networks SSID into the settings usually solves most problems....

yeh obviously you need to be sure your pre shared key is correct. it's a little bit confusing cos the text entry screen isnt the same as your standard qwerty keyboard so its easy enough to make a mistake.

im assuming you can connect other devices to the wireless network?

From my limited experience, that sounds like the WEP is wrong.

All the wep info should be in the start screen of your browser when you open it ( eircom ) i had the same problem dropped the firewall to light worked fine .

Im fairly sure the WEP is right, its actually connectiong to the wireless network but it failing when it comes to IP address test.

I presume your router does DHCP, is the network settings on your xbox set to automatic for IP ect..???

Also check that DNS is set to automatic.

Yeah it uses dcp, both the ip and dns are set to automatic. I rang microsoft, and they said that i MUST use a password on my router so i've set it back up and double checked that its correct on the 360.

    could be a few things

    never used a 360

can you put a ip in manually? if so pick one simliar to the ip of the router..

ex if its 192.168.1.1 .. set the 360 as say 192.168.1.30 or some number between 2 and 250

then set the subnet mask the same as the router.. usually just the default 255.255.255.0

    might do some good

is your router set to screen mac adresses?

You could try inputting the DNS Ip's manually, this worked for me before when I was having problems with connecting my 360.

    • can you connect any other devices to your wireless network?
    • what other devices have you connected to the wireless network?
    • what router are you using? what ISP?
    • are you allowed have more than 1 device connected according to your ISP? it should be easy to workaround anyway
    • can you pickup an IP from the router if you plug the xbox in using the ethernet cable?

you shouldnt have to manually enter in any IP info. I had problems connecting to xbox live with a crappy netopia wireless router / mickysoft wireless adapter. the problem turned out to be firewall security setting on the netopia.

its incorrect to say you "need" a password to connect to your router. You can setup a router with no admin password and no security, it wouldn't be very wise but its possible on any routers ive worked with.

How exactly did you change the firewall setings? I have gone into control panel> Network and internet settings> and switched off my firewall altogether but this doesnt seem to have any effect.

It will connect to xbox live with a wired connection, just not a wireless one...

Thanks again for all the help lads :)

If you CAN connect to XBox Live using the wired connection, then its not likely to be a firewall setting on your router. The firewall settings are the same for wired / wireless connections going thru it.

Therefore must be related to the wireless setup. Somebody posted this link before "Xbox 360 Live Connection Problems", there's a few things to try.

If your using eircom its in advanced when you click the eircom icon .I couldnt get mine to work and it was 100% the firewall .After i lowered worked fine .

In this case it cant be the firewall if he can connect thru the wired connection. Must be related to the wireless setup / security / DHCP config.
