BenQ dvd dw 1650 wont play any disk!?!

    hi thereI own a DW 1650 and recently wiped HDD because of registry problems,i think!
    anyway since then i cannot get the dvd burner to operate i load a disk(cd/dvd doesnt matter which!)and it makes a kind of half running sound,like its about to load up then stops and this repeats over and over.
    Can any kind soul out there lend me some advice

    Hmm... could be a few things, I think.

    Are there any errors in the Windows Device Manager?

    Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System
    Click on the Hardware tab, then on Device Manager.

    Look for any DVD/CD-ROM devices listed with a red x or an exclamation mark on them, and double-click on them.

    The Device Status will give any warnings or errors.

    i am amazed at this as i try to burn dvd image,no problem and then put in cd and the disk does not register!!!
    what is up with that?
