Ok so im gettin new comp soon but dont know wha to get

I can either get a laptop with 1Gig RAM and a 1.7Ghz CPU, or for the same price get a P4 PC with 1Gig RAM and a 19" flat panel

The main things I do on my comp are:

    Listen to music
    Watch and RIP DVDs
    Use P2P apps
    Photoshop
    Internet
    MSN

Sometimes all at the same time

I'd rather have a laptop for the mobility as i'm a digi photographer, but if it made a big difference i'd rather get a savage PC then pick up a cheap Laptop on eBay

    Thanks!

    Abe

Bad enough watching DVDs on a 19", but on a lappy!

    My suggestion's a desktop

disagree, laptop id go for. Mobility would swing it for me. You could always get cables to link to tv for those movie nights in.

    Biggest Question,
    What is your budget?
A laptop can do pretty much all of the things you mention above-but you will pay more for it in general.

plus if u have a VGA port on your LCD/Plasma big screen TV its easier to use your laptop to watch dvds etc.

    Two questions to consider

What is the primary purpose of the new machine?
Is being mobile of any great advantage to you?

Generally speaking, you get more bang for your buck with a desktop.

So, given that you are essentially paying for mobility, how important is it to you?

A laptop with a 1.7Ghz CPU and 1 gig of RAM is powerful enough for what you want to do. Ripping DVDs, however, will be that bit slower on a laptop of that spec compared to a similarly priced, higher spec, PC.

Thanks guys! think ill go with the PC

Mobility isnt a great asset for me, only for about the house, but I wouldnt sacrifice the power of a PC to bring a laptop into my sittin room

Sure I have the internet on my DS so thats grand for surfin when im out and about

    Cheers!
