Can anyone recommend a good rack cabinet for me. <15u if possible. Anytime I get onto a reseller/supplier call I get is

"ara they are all the same, here's the dimension xyz"

Not good enough if I'm going to landing a few grand worth the equipment into it!

There is an element of truth in what they have said. In fairness nearly everyone who buys a rack unit is putting 1000's worth of gear in it!

Who have you tried so far?

Just some retails and trade suppliers local to Cork. I'm noobish at this end of things and I'd like to be better informed that the sparse specs that I've been given. Interestingly thought most resellers tend to be drawing their products from here:

I got ours through Dell if thats any good, can't remember the details though sorry :/

If your servers are all Dells I would contact Dell and get one from them or IBM or HP etc.

I know another company called Radionics sell Cabinets too but I havent used them.

I would also get a full cabinet rather than a 15u one to allow for expansion and give yourself plenty of room for UPS's, Monitors, KVMs etc. Here we have a small ~15 U IBM one but I find quite annoying to use, constantly bending up and down and kneeling on the floor when ever Ive work to do on it. Its a small complaint but I feel a valid one ;)

Wouldn't agree that they're all the same.

If you'll be putting in rack mounted servers with a high heat exhaust, with the intention of adding more, then you'll want a mesh/preforated front and back that allow air flow. and filler panels to block hot air recirculating to the front. Most cabinets sold from small sellers are those glass fronted things for placing in an office corner. Which are ok for cabling and a few pc's on shelves, but not for more than 3 or 4 rack mount servers.

Not all cabinets are of sufficient depth to hold a rack mount server.

Also my colleagues swear by getting extra wide 23" cabinets to assist with cabling, with the posts set to 19".

And the Dell servers, and presumably others, have an option of a non standard posts and rack rail fittings. (google Versarails).
