I just thought I'd create a new thread for this incase anyone misses it in the Wii Points thread.

I picked up 2000 points from Gamestop for 20euro. I'm not sure if they still have them at that price but I'd imagine so.

So anyone who doesnt have a credit card, be sure to buy them from Gamestop over anywhere else and save yourself at least a fiver.

Damnit, I spent €25 on 2000 the night before last, and didn't have vouchers! Mind you, don't think theres a gamestop anywhere near me so it'd have cost me that much to get to one!

Grab yourself a 3v card and buy them directly on the Wii.

HMV were charging 40 for 2000pts, when I saw them last week.

Tell me this is a joke? There should be a price cap in place from Nintendo to stop retailers taking the pi$$. This would have big negative effects on the image of the Wii if they were seen to be ripping people off.

I've got a 3V card. Its finding places that actually do the fecking top-ups is my problem!!! Plus you've the €5 charge no matter what amount you top up, so its worthwhile buying the largest top up you can afford!

It is, in fact, illegal for a manufacturer to dictate a selling price to a retailer. That's why you always see 'recomended retail price' or 'approximately xxx' on ads.. because the manufacturer usually places the ad, and they can't set the retail price...

what about the iPod? I think they have a set price the units must be sold at:confused:

Nope.. like with anything an eventual general price is reached.. the 360 was different prices at launch in lots of chains.. but is now the same price everywhere because no one retailer wants to be seen to be more expensive than others. Most retailers will generally go along with the manufacturers recommended price because it's safer than taking the chance of misjudging the market.. unless the RRP is obviously silly.. like on Wii where Nintendo released a € RRP without considering market variations thru the Euro zone..

HMV are a weird lot. They have great prices (compared to high street stores) for games. I mean, they have WWE for the 360 for 50quid. It's 75 in GAME. All new releases are 60quid. Normally 75 in game. Same goes for most games. They had a DS game (Star Wars Lethal Alliance) for 40. Gamestop and GAME have it for 50+

But then usually leave the price as it is, im seeing old Gamecube games in HMV for €60. I've only ever bought PC games in HMV, never console.

Doesn't the site have shop lists?

Yeah, but finding one that I actually know where it is and can get to easily is the hard part.
There was one listed as being in my home town, I went in there, they knew nothing about it.
One listed as 2 miles from there, went there, they could do it, but the rep hadn't left them the instructions for doing it, and they didn't wanna chance it.
One was listed as being in the square, but they decided against it. :(

They also have 42 All Time Classics for €49, when everywhere else is €29

Crap, they really should get their act together... 3V is such a useful tool.

Agreed. Finding one that is listed near you and agrees to actually go ahead and do it is even harder.
We used to use Londis on Dame St, and also Spar/Londis/Centra(?) by O'Conneld Bridge, both of which were still listed on the 3V site last time I checked, but both stopped doing it at least 6 months ago.

We get ours now in the Spar on Lower Abbey St, be careful though because their POS machine doesn't work at the minute so they can't take Laser or credit card.
Also, Spar in DUndrum still do it.

They don't need to force them to sell for 20 Euro but they should be allowed say you can't charge more than 20 Euro to retailers. Retailers would still have the right to sell for less than 20 Euro. :)

Price fixing is generally done to rip people off, in Ireland we need it to stop retailers from ripping us off.

Just double checked today and it's definitely 39.99 for 2000 points.

Not as extreme as HMV but I saw that in Virgin in Dundrum Town Centre today that 2,000 points were on sale for €29.99. Seems it's the music shops that are trying to make a killing on them...
