    Taken from news.bbc.co.uk
    1. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (£52m)
    2. Casino Royale (£44.6m, pictured)
    3. The Da Vinci Code (£30.4m)
    4. Ice Age 2: The Meltdown (£29.5m)
    5. Borat (£23.7m)
    6. X-Men: The Last Stand (£19.1m)
    7. Cars (£16.3m)
    8. Superman Returns (£16.1m)
    9. Mission: Impossible III (£15.5m)
    10. The Devil Wears Prada (£13.9m)

I'm surprised at how little Superman Returns and X-men made. Both of those have had a longer cinema release time than Casino Royale.

TBH im surprised xmen and superman did so well. dont get me wrong i love the genre but superman wasnt really an action blockbuster and did so bad in the states they hmmmed and hawwwed over greenlighting th sequel. and xmen wasnt a patch without singer, a good action film but i didnt think it rated so high in the stakes. pleasently happy though. means the genres not dead yet, at least in the eyes of the accountants :D

Agreed, I had it out with the missus about Superman lacking something and as for my dissapointment with regards X-men 3. Christ is was bad, the movie equivilent of fast-food if you ask me.

The top ten does not reflect a good movie 66.6666% of the time, the majority of movie consumers are sheep plyed by expensive advertising, hype and slick C.G.I.

    I'm glad I'm not a sheep.

I know, that is why the thread is about the movie takings not quality.

I was more surprised with Superman than X-Men. There was more talk about the revival of the Superman movies at the start of the year than X-Men.

X-Men had been done twice recently regardless of the director choice. People knew what to expect.

Superman on the other hand was different in my opinion. With everything that happened Christopher Reeves and the struggle to bring the Superman movie to the big screen for years, I thought it would have done better at the box office.

Casino Royale did its job. Wasn't sure about it until it was released. Great movie. I'm sure a good portion of its viewers were more interested in seeing how this take on Bond works and watching another Bond movie if you know what I mean.
