As a teen, I have always wonder why it is legal to work from the age of 14 but haven't been able to find anyone who is willing to employ a young person of this age group.

Does anyone know anything about this or why people are more reluctant to employ young people in general?

Well, the policy is you can only work over holidays at 14 and max 8 hours a week at 15. I got a job in McDonalds at 15. Basically it's because of the limited availability. I worked in a market at 14, found it tough going to be honest. Much easier to hire somebody that can work all the hours going.
