No games come with it. I'd recommend any Mario game, Yoshi's Island DS, Pokemon(game boy advance), Animal Crossing, Nintendogs if she loves cute puppies, Brain Training. If you go to any game shop the staff should be able to give you advice on games.

Games for the DS come on small cartridges so it's not a case of it being "blank" as such - the games aren't saved or installed onto the handset, it's all on the cart.

A second vote for MarioKart, Yoshi's Island and Nintendogs (assuming she's a "girly girl", dog's cuteness transcends the all-important "kiddie barrier" which most 14 year old girls will want to feel like they're on the far side of in a way that Animal Crossing doesn't quite manage - It's a bitch to find in stock though). Mariokart is great for a first introduction to online play as well since it doesn't require any friend codes to get stuck in. Most girls I know who were 14 when there was a current version of Mariokart out were well into it, it's always a winner.

Meteos and the ever-cheap Drill Spirits are great fast-paced puzzle games that shouldn't hit any gender-boundaries - they're more for short bursts of play than big long sit-downs though. And everyone loves Tetris, don't they?

Girls also seem to go for The Sims games. Something to do with the innate need to rule men's lives, maybe? Anyway, the Urbs (Sims In The City) wasn't bad, not sure what the Sims 2 or Sims 2 Pets were like though.

My mother has just bought one of these for my son!

Does it automatically take gameboy advance games or do I have to buy a dicky doo to play them on??

Yeah the DS/DS Lite plays the GBA games no problem. There's just a little think to fill the slot, pull it out and stick in a GBA cart (They stick out a bit with the DS Lite) and away you go!

(Little tip, if you hold B while turning the DS on, it goes straight to the GBA cartridge rather than going to the menu first.)
