The opera web browser will be available for a trial download, shortly before its release next year.

With news that the Wii Forecast Channel is now active in Europe, Nintendo have followed it up with the news that a trial version of the Opera Web Browser will be available for Wii users to download on 22nd December.

The web browser will allow users to browse the internet, and it sits nicely alongside other internet-based features, such as the Wii Shop channel and the recently available Forecast channel.

The full version of the Opera browser will be available for Wii users from March next year, and will be free until the end of June. After June, users can purchase the software from the Wii Shop for 500 Wii Points (around GBP 3.50).

shouldn't have to pay for the web browser no matter how small a price it is.

here's hoping someone will make one available for SD cards if such a thing doesn't already exsist.

The full version comes out in March and continues to be free until June.

    After that it's 5 euro.

Not too bad really. Hell of a lot better than the DS browser.

very true. I was very surprised how well the weather channel worked. Plus I have a job so I won't cry over €5 like some people are with the VC. I think the Wii is starting to find it's legs now

Is there going to be a keyboard or have they figured out a decent interface for it? Picking up my wii in the morning...

Haven't heard of a keyboard yet.

The onscreen keyboard isn't actually that bad though (as on-screen keyboards go). They've got the standerd QWERTY keyboard but also a fairly nice telephone style 9-button keypad with predictive text.

True, but it's awful slow for typing properly on.
This unfortunately is going to encourage a lot of text talk.
I mean typing something with proper spelling and grammar and punctuation would take ages on that.

I'm just hoping you're able to watch movies from the likes of Youtube. Never be bored again.

I've been writing alot of mails (always use proper grammar / punctuation etc...) and I find it pretty good once you get used to it.

No substitute for a keyboard ofc but I'm quite happy with it.
