Its important to wash

Instead of counting sheep to try to get to sleep I decided to riffle cards in my head (you know what I mean).

If the cards are laid out as in the Dublin clubs
    A23456789TJQK, A23456789TJQK, A23456789TJQK, A23456789TJQK

Split the deck into two groups of 26 cards. One perfect riffle gives ....
Top of deck ---> AA2233445566778899TTJJQQKK, AA2233445566778899TTJJQQKK <--- bottom of deck

Split the deck into two groups of 26 cards. A second perfect riffle gives ....
Top of deck ---> AAAA2222333344445555666677, 7788889999TTTTJJJJQQQQKKKK <--- bottom of deck

Split the deck into two groups of 26 cards. A third perfect riffle gives ....
Top of deck ---> A7A7A8A83828292939393T3T4T, 4T4J4J5J5J5Q5Q6Q6Q6K6K7K7K <--- bottom of deck

Split the deck into two groups of 26 cards. A fourth perfect riffle gives ....
    Top of deck --->A47TA47JA48JA58J35 ... 8J258Q25 , 9Q269Q369Q369K36TK37TK47TK <--- bottom of deck

You can see that if there is no wash of the cards, and the dealer does four riffles (about average), then the 26 card top half of the deck (18 cards dealt to the players (in bold/blue) and the 5 flop and 3 burn cards contain AAAA 22 3 444 5555 77 8888 T JJJJ Q. That's not a very random deal.

Now I'm sure most will point out that the dealers always wash the cards (the importance of a good wash has been stressed by Devore).

When I saw the results above I remembered that I was knocked out of the Fitz monday night freezeout once in the first hand by quads JJJJ against my full house 888JJ.

Mmmm ...... I see those cards in the cards expected after four riffles.

Is this the best explanation of a bad beat ever?

Cutting the cards after the riffles should disrupt the order

I take it didn't help getting you to sleep. I think you would be a good player of the-3D-naughts-&-crosses-in-your-head-game.

Next time I can’t sleep I might try reading that again!!! only joking, I find it’s better to do simple maths like just counting to 20 and visualise the numbers, helps clear the mind

I have read in a mechanics book that 8 perfect riffles will leave you with exactly the same deck you started with.

Although this is close to impossible to do, be suspicious of anyone who looks too familiar with the cards and riffles 8 times :D

I could do a perfect Faro when I was around 15. I could also cut to the 4 aces ala Scarne.

Perfect every time, or the odd time,
Its hard enough for me to cut the deck 26/26,
have no chance of getting it to work
