I can pipe an output stream to FIND ,
how do I then get it in to an environmental variable ?
    ( OS = Xp / 2003 )

echo Fred | Find "Fred" [fixme set x= ]

I want to then be able to go
    echo %x%

    and see Fred again !

I can do it by writing to a file and reading it back with For /F
but I'll be doing this several hundred thousand times so would wear a hole in the drive not to mention the time taken waiting for the drive to spin round again
