This might be a long shot, but looking for the name of a photographer. He usually does very scenic photos, like Ayres Rock and the like, and the pictures are always really colourful. I saw some of his work recently in las vegas and it was very expensive (bout 4k ish), but might try ebay for copies. Can anyone help??

At a guess it's Peter Lik and yes, he is very, very pricey. He has two superb books out, one of America and one of Australia. But in the same ballpark with some beautiful pictures of Australia is Ric J Steiniger. His prints were altogether more affordable and I brought one home with me.

I'd point you towards a website for both but the link I have for Peter Lik isn't working at the moment and I don't have Ric Steiniger's link to hand.

Could be Peter Lik - www.peterlik.com - Australian based photographer, I've been to one of his galleries (in Cairns), some really great work, most of which was far too expensive for me!

They are amazing shots,so colourful. How does he get this colour in it though? Is it purely on manual settings with filters n stuff or does he use photoshop?

I don't know for Peter Lik but for Ric Steininger I met him one day in his gallery and he told me he did not use filters on the camera that the colours were as is on the date the photograph was taken.

I picked one small book for about AU$30, but everything else was pretty expensive alright. Some fantastic shots on display though.

I think I paid around 70 dollars for the book I bought. They were selling an Australia and an America book with a special deal if you bought them together but they were like coffee table books and I couldn't face carrying two of them along with everything else, so I bought the Australia one for the memories. Photos were stunning though.

I wanted one of the prints, and they told me that the price was dependent on how many of the limited print runs were left in stock, the fewer there were, the more expensive they were. Needless to mention the one I wanted was the one of which they had fewest and the price on it unframed was not that far off a Cathay Pacific return fare to Australia from what I remember.

oh well...we can't have everything we want.

Ric Steininger's website is http://www.steininger.com.au. He is a brilliant photographer and a really nice guy. I met him in his store a while back and I prefer his photo's over Peter Lik's as Peter uses a digital camera to take his photo's which can be easily manipulated

Peter Lik was using a Fuji Panoramic film camera when I visited his gallery back in 2004, I've not seen anything on his site to suggest a change of direction. Many photographers use digital these days, many other have 'easily manipulated' film over the years too.

Well, in fact, so can film now with the aid of a scanner. Not suggesting that Peter Lik does that - merelypointing out that this is a simplistic approach to take.

Just to point out , colours like that can be got easily from a camera with no filters , just Velvia film , if anyone still uses film , get a couple of rolls of Velvia and go shoot some landscapes , its great stuff , its getting harder to get Developed , and its getting harder to find , but great stuff nonetheless.

Peter Lik has a series of galleries up the east coast of Australia, if you know anyone in Sydney, Noosa, Cairns or Port Douglas they could pick up some of the small books or post cards available in them.

If someone is in the Noosa gallery each photo on display had a card beside it describing how he took the photo. The other galleries wouldn't display the information cards for some reason though the staff didn't know what that reason was.
